Denmark By Process - One Year Later

"Denmark by Process—One Year Later." Stop by from 6:00-9:00 pm on Friday, August 9 to see the show and visit with Kori.

Archbold’s fixation with Denmark not only came from her Alma Mater, Dana College, but from her heritage as well. Her fourth great-grandpa emigrated here in the 1860s from one of Denmark’s many islands. Archbold carries on her love for Denmark through images captured in the moment, with a Scandinavian heart, and a Midwestern eye for seeing the beauty in everything. “Denmark by Process” includes a mix of digital prints, cyanotypes, and salt prints to see through Archbold’s eyes what Denmark looked like in all shades, colors, and processes.

Kori Archbold is a newly minted photographer living in Omaha, Nebraska. She recently received her AAS degree in photography from Metropolitan Community College and has been a member of Link Co-op & Gallery since January 2024. Her photo work began with a home-grown food blog, and has now stretched beyond shooting cookies and cake to experiences in events, portraits, headshots, travel, architecture, and street photography. Her more recent developments include exploring alternative processes and analog film photography.

Connecting

Drop by the gallery on Friday, July 12th, 6-9 PM as we welcome Barbara Robins to Link Gallery and Workshop. She will be displaying cyanotype images from her series “Connecting”

“Connecting is about joyfully playing with negatives made in my youth and exploring some of the many images my grandmother made between 1920 – 1950. Ione Laisy learned photography from her father, and I learned non-silver methods from the eminent Betty Hahn during a semester of concentrated photographic study at U of New Mexico. I then completed my BFA in photography at U of Montana – Missoula. As life provides unexpected opportunities, I became a Native American literature specialist and have been teaching in the English Department at U of Nebraska at Omaha for 25 years. I am delighted to share my close-up texture studies from nature walks during my undergraduate days and some discoveries from my grandmother’s images. My goal was to select images to showcase the quirky, off-kilter humor that epitomizes my Laisy & Robins families and connect again with that youthful enthusiasm for experimentation.”

Omaha Only

Join us this Friday for Mick Mancuso’s “Omaha Only”. This exhibition features portraits of local Omaha bands and musicians.

“Omaha Only” is a collection of local bands and musicians based in Omaha Nebraska. The bands featured in this body of work range in genre and style, but all share one genuine love for expressing themselves through the art of music.

From the artist: “I began “Omaha Only” in August of 2023 with the goal of shining a spotlight on the often-overlooked Omaha music scene. Additionally, I wanted to not only hone my skills as a photographer but also provide a free service to bands that would greatly benefit from a photo shoot.

“Omaha Only” also serves as a documentation of these musicians; the love that they have for each other and the music that they play. Making cool shit keeps the world turning.”

Negative Space

Join us for May First Friday at Link Gallery + Workshop in the Blackstone Mansion! Link Gallery is thrilled to present Lincoln-based photographer Corryn Birkeland's exhibition, "Negative Space." Stop by from 6-9 pm on Friday, May 3 to see the show and visit with Corryn.

As a commentary on today’s healthcare system through the lens of gendered medical disparities, Birkeland's self-portraits illustrate the introspection surrounding her experience fighting for and undergoing an elective hysterectomy. Treading the line between empowerment and grief, "Negative Space" lays bare the weight of expectation and serves as a visual proclamation that womanhood is not defined by one’s ability to bear children, but rather by resilience, the capacity for choice, and a collective power to redefine the narrative.

Katie Goosen: Exploration Of Manipulation

Katie Goosen: Exploration Of Manipulation

In 2017, Katie Goossen was met with an unavoidable life-altering experience, a boy she trusted and loved very dearly at the time, sexually assaulted her for many months. It wasn’t until years later did Goossen realize what he had done and by that time, it was too late to forgive and forget. To let out her anger and frustration, Goossen turned to her photography. With each photograph life seemed easier and simpler, but Goossen always felt something was missing in her practice.

In February of 2022 the missing piece was found. Goossen had started her journey in the art of manipulating photographs and collage. Since then, she has implemented the process into all her pieces. The crafting and creating of each piece made her more connected than any other work she has ever done. Goossen’s work has reflected her emotions, feelings, and her experiences throughout life and her day to day. Creating a special bond with each cut, scratch, and stitch.

Goossen’s fascination with photographing herself comes from a failed career as a model. She had dreamed of becoming well-known in the industry, but the company that she studied under didn’t fit quite right. To add to her portfolio for modeling, Goossen took liberty to take some of her own photographs; sadly, her mentor did not approve. This phenomenon lead Goossen to photograph herself, as a way to prove herself. Over time the spite slowly faded, but the strive to make new pieces never left.

With her photography, Goossen has created a safe space, not only for her but also for her viewers.

Joshua Redwine: A Moment in Time

Join us on First Friday, February 2nd from 6-9 pm for the opening reception of Joshua Redwine’s exhibition, A Moment in Time. The show runs from February 2nd through February 25th, 2024.

Exhibition Statement:

Everything we see tells a unique story; something left unsaid at first glance. I attempt to tell the story of each object, scene and moment in time as it is spoken to me, but I urge you to listen for yourself so each of us can glean a different story. This is why I love photography. So much can be said from a single moment in time.

About the Artist

Joshua Redwine is a former civil engineer turned photographer. Realizing that engineering wasn’t a fulfilling career, Redwine set out on a new path to capture nature at its most remarkable. Growing up in Lincoln, NE, and inspired by greats such as Ansel Adams, Gordon Parks and Edward Weston, Redwine captures the very essence of emotion that a serene landscape inspires in all of us. Redwine’s art uses a blend of colors, movement, and textures to create a seamless masterpiece that many find to speak to their very soul.

Windfall

"Windfall" is a collection of moments and found objects. Moments captured so they are never forgotten. Treasure documented before it is discarded by time. Some of these moments are day-to-day life, while others are a glimpse at adventure. Keeping track maps years passing to visit when memory pulls. These moments are given new life through the cyanotype SolarFast printing process. Sometimes bursting with joy and at other times feeling like we are on the edge of disaster.
